TRAINING: In the mornings I do my cardio (plyometrics, Circuit training, Running) In the evenings I do my Jiu-jitsu, Muay Thai, and wrestling sparring. I nap, eat, and teach in between.
Thoughts on upcoming opponent, Matt Brown? Matt is a very tough guy. He has pretty good striking and improved takedown defense. I think his weakness is his Jiu Jitsu, but he’s knows what he's doing on the ground. His biggest strength is his mental toughness and his will to win. I am going to exploit his weaknesses and do what I do best. It’s going to be a great fight.
When and why did you start training for fighting? I started doing jiu-jitsu in 2003 and never had any aspirations to fight in the beginning until my game shot through the roof upon meeting and training under Rob Kahn. Then I knew with my new skills that this is something I would be good at. Less than one year after my first pro fight, HERE I AM!!
What ranks and titles have you held? It’s so early in my career, only having four fights, that I haven’t acquired any titles YET....but I am a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Brown belt and always seem to win Submission Grappling tournaments.
Do you have any heroes? Jesus Christ, Rickson Gracie, Michael Jordan....If I can have or accomplish what any of those three have done, then I think I’m doing okay.
What is your favorite technique? My favorite technique is anything that will put my opponent to sleep!! Some people can slip out of arm and leg locks, so I'd say triangle!!
What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? It means I’ve reached my first goal and made it to the "Big Show" in fighting; this is the major leagues for MMA
Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? Yes. The University of Tampa, Bachelor of Science. I was also the president of my fraternity Pi Kappa Phi.
What was your job before you started fighting? After graduation I sold Life Insurance for a year then said to myself, "This SUCKS", so I quit and trained full time living off money from teaching private lessons.
